Primary Buck
Primary BuckI just finished this painting this morning. It has double meaning for me. In color theory, red, blue, and yellow are the Primary colors - you can mix any other colors from them. I wanted to do a painting that played around with that literal combination - and I wanted it to be an unexpected use. I also love the mountains and hiking amongst wildlife. I get a thrill every time I see an animal in the wilderness! That joy is primary to my overall happiness in life. So, primary buck. :)

Just Hanging Out
Just Hanging Out"Just Hanging Out" (watermark does not appear on actual painting)24" x 12"Mixed Media on Gallery Wrapped CanvasI'm doing a series of black cat paintings for a client - and since these lovely beasties are always mislabeled scary or dangerous, I love to paint them how I've always known them to be: silly, sweet and affectionate. All you black cat owners know exactly what I mean.

Are You Lookin' at Me?
Are You Lookin' at Me?I always feel like zebras are hiding in plain site... even though their black and white coats don't match anything, they blend in magnificently. And they're stunning. 12” x 12” Mixed Media on Board

The Color of Elephants
The Color of ElephantsThis painting has been sitting, with only the background complete, for about 3 months. I just. Couldn’t. Paint it. I kept looking at it thinking, “Maybe today…” but nope! It just wouldn’t come out of me. Then Saturday, for no good reason, I suddenly woke up and knew the elephant was ready to be painted. It flowed really easily after that. Had I tried to force it before IT was ready to be painted – I guarantee that it wouldn’t have worked. This is how it goes… I don’t choose what to paint, or when to paint it. It makes the decision. Every single time. I hope it was worth the wait!

Mr. Blue (Blue Heeler puppy)
Mr. Blue (Blue Heeler puppy)Mr. Blue is a Blue Heeler Puppy. Blue Heelers are herding dogs: they’re intelligent, funny, hard-working, protective, and active. They’re great companions, but you had better be prepared to exercise them!
Mid-Century Macaws
Mid-Century Macaws20” x 16” Mixed Media on BoardI originally painted these macaws on a classical, fresco style background. While I loved that painting, I kept feeling the need to create a new, different background that was much more modern and playful. Macaws on Fresco
Macaws on FrescoI usually begin a painting with a very specific idea in mind.  That was the case with these blue and gold macaws.  I love their bright colors and I wanted to showcase them against something much more muted and non-specific.  Since I have a longtime crush on Italian Fresco artwork I decided to go that direction with the background.  Specifically, I wanted to pay homage to a famous garden fresco originally located in the dining room of the Villa de Livia outside of Rome.  The colors worked perfectly with my macaws, and it invoked a feeling that I liked.  The result is this print:  “Macaws on Fresco,” painting #1.

Lucy A.K.A. Chicken
Lucy A.K.A. Chicken20" x 16"Mixed Media on BoardShe's a commission for a daughter's birthday present - a young woman who loves pink and loves her dog. :) Anyone who loves an animal knows that you almost never just call them by their actual name. Instead, they always have about 15 different nick names. I'm not sure how Lucy earned the name "Chicken" but I bet it's a cute story. :)

Look Who's Coming To Dinner
Look Who's Coming To DinnerThis painting was commissioned by a man with a very creative idea: paint two critters vying for who would get to eat the third! I'm an animal lover, so even though the frog and chameleon both need to eat, I of course feel badly for the dragonfly. I keep telling myself he's going to get away. :)I painted the dragonfly wings in metallics so that when viewed from certain angles they shimmer just like in real life (you can see it somewhat in the closeup shot).

Peanut Snuggles In The Sheets
Peanut Snuggles In The SheetsThis was a commission for Peanut's people. She sleeps in the bed with them, and anyone who loves a dog knows that that's some of the best dog/people bonding time that there is.
Ben
Ben14”x11” Mixed Media on BoardThis was a fun painting to do. The woman who commissioned it had a lovely relationship with this squirrel, Ben, for many years. She recognized him by the scar on his face. In addition to being playful and sweet, he was a tough guy to have survived as long as he did. He would come into her yard every day and sit on her deck with her and have lunch. :) She misses him, and I'm glad I'm able to give her a joyful reminder of her little furry buddy.
